Decorating Ideas For Christmas

Buying Unique Holiday Decorations

November 8th, 2007

Buying unique holiday decorations doesn’t have to be a huge task. If you are looking for the right Christmas decoration for sale you may want to check out a number of places. You can find a lot of interesting and timeless pieces in a lot of different stores and craft sales. You can also find a Christmas decoration for sale at unexpected locations as well.

It is always the holiday season at the flea market. There are tons of unique holiday decorative items for sale at these kinds of gatherings. I have stumbled across beautiful pieces that cost next to nothing but also boast excellent quality as well. You can find a Christmas decoration for sale in mid-July; so keep your eyes open.

Buying off season for holiday décor is a wonderful way to save money on these kinds of items. A Christmas decoration for sale in the summer will cost way less than one that is for sale in November. This approach does take some patience as well as discipline. It is hard to buy holiday items off season but it pays off in the long run.

You may think that finding a Christmas decoration for sale during the summer is really difficult but these items are all over the place if you keep your eyes open. I like to frequent yard sales throughout the year. Many families unload all kinds of wonderful holiday décor all year long.

The thrift store is also a great place to find older holiday items that are perfect for a traditional look. I decided to work around one particular Christmas decoration for sale at a thrift store. This decorative item was wonderful because it had a great retro-sixties look that I adore. Within no time at all I found one similar Christmas decoration for sale after another and soon I had a whole ‘60’s theme for my holiday.

The great thing about shopping for holiday decorations like this is that they are so inexpensive that you can go from one theme to the next without spending a lot of money. I chose to buy a Christmas decoration for sale that works well with an angel tree theme. After collecting a number of angels I was ready to make a holiday decorative piece that was consistent in theme and cost next to nothing to create.

Creativity is the most important aspect of holiday decorating projects. Making sure that you watch out for a Christmas decoration for sale here and there throughout the entire year is a great way to get inspired while saving cash for presents.

Low Cost Christmas Decorations

November 6th, 2007

Are you planning on decorating your home for Christmas this year?  If so, have you completed the first step?  When it comes to decorating for Christmas, the first step is getting the decorations.  Unfortunately, in today’s world, many families are finding it difficult to afford “extras,” including Christmas decorations. However, there is good news.  If you are on a budget, there are still a number of different ways that you can get your home decorated for Christmas. You can do so with low-cost Christmas decorations.

When it comes to low-cost Christmas decorations, it is important to remember that different people associate low-cost with different things.  Just because you think a particular Christmas decoration is low-cost doesn’t necessarily mean that someone else will. For some individuals, a low-cost Christmas decoration is an item that only costs one dollar, for others it is five, and for others it can be fifty dollars.  That is why it is important, when looking for low-cost Christmas decorations, that you keep this in mind.  However, no matter what your view of low-cost is, there are still a number of different ways that you can go about decorating for Christmas.

Perhaps, the easiest way to save money while decorating for Christmas is to not buy any Christmas decorations.  If you decorated your home for Christmas last year or in recent years, did you save your old Christmas decorations?  If you did save your old Christmas decorations, you may want to think about using them again this year. Although it may be nice to have brand new Christmas decorations, they are not required.  Not only can you save money by using your old Christmas decorations, but you might not have to spend any extra money at all!

In addition to using your own used Christmas decorations, you may want to think about using other people’s old Christmas decorations. During the summer and sometimes during the early fall, you may be able find local yard sales.  Yard sales are a great place to get used Christmas decorations for an affordable price.  If you are unable to find a yard sale, you can also purchase used Christmas decorations online. You can easily find a collection of used and sometimes even deeply discounted new Christmas decorations by doing your shopping on an online auction website.

Although you can save a fairly large amount of money by buying used Christmas decorations, as previously mentioned, there is a good chance that you want new ones.  If this is the case, you still have a number of different options.  You should check your local dollar stores, discount stores, and even department stores. Many of these stores, around Christmastime, have a large selection of Christmas decorations, at an affordable price. If you are looking to save the most money, it may be a good idea to visit your local dollar stores. Some dollar stores sell really nice Christmas decorations for a dollar and sometimes even less.

It might even be possible for you to make your own Christmas decorations, with items that you already have inside your house. In fact, this is how you can turn your old Christmas decorations into new ones.  Simply by altering your existing decorations in one way or another, for instance by adding a bow, you could make your old Christmas decorations like new.  You can also take a simple candleholder and turn it into a Christmas candleholder with a little bit of creativity.  The same can be said for a number of other items that you likely already have inside your home.  This is another way that you could avoid spending any money on Christmas decorations.

As you can easily see, there are a number of different ways that you can go about finding or making your own low-cost Christmas directions. Although you may be worried about the quality of those decorations, you shouldn’t be.  Most times, it isn’t necessarily about the Christmas decorations themselves, but they way that they are presented or arranged.

Great Christmas Decorating Ideas

November 6th, 2007

Winter holiday time is a very special time of the year for me. My mother had wonderful Christmas decorating ideas that she used to make this time magical for us. I have tried to follow her lead in using Christmas decorating ideas to help my family enjoy the holiday season.

I find that there is a fine line between festive and gaudy. I do not want to cross that line so I try to keep my Christmas decorating ideas centered on natural items and lights. I love candle light and wanted to find a way to use this outdoors. My older sister told me that in the 1970’s, during the energy crisis, many people used ice globes in their yards.

To make the globes you fill balloons with water and place them in your freezer. The balloons freeze from the outside in. You need to keep checking the balloons to insure that they do not freeze all the way through. Once the ice has built up around the inside of the balloon you pop the balloon and drain the water out of the cavity that is formed in the middle. Sometimes this includes chopping a hole in the top. This process produces ice globes. By using different sizes of balloons you can create several sizes of globes.

I found that using rings from canning jars make a great base to stand the globes on. A candle is then placed in each globe. We live in a cold climate so I place several of the globes on our steps and line our driveway. The votive lights are easy to light and the globe protects them from going out. I have also arranged several sizes of globes to create ice sculptures in the front yard. These Christmas decorating ideas require no storage because the candles burn away and the globes melt.

In the house I use evergreens and ribbons along with traditional glass ornaments to decorate the mantel as well as the table tops. The evergreens stay fresh for several weeks and can be burned in the fireplace after the season is over. The bulbs and ribbons store very easily in flat boxes. The best Christmas decorating ideas do not involve a great deal of money or storage of items. By using the natural evergreens and ice there are no storage issues and the costs are minimal.

Also you do not feel that you are limited to the same Christmas decorating ideas each year because you can change the shapes and sizes of your ice globes and new ribbons and different colored bulbs are inexpensive to buy. Last year I used popcorn and cranberry strands in place of the ribbons. After the holidays I placed the strand in the trees outside for the birds to enjoy. Christmas decorating ideas do not have to be expensive to be tasteful and pretty.
